See widgets ON your desktop

Wednesday, March 29th, 2006

The introduction of Widgets for the dashboard in OS/X has caused many useful utilities in the form of widgets to pop up around the place… Sometimes there is the odd utility that you would like to see on the desktop so you don’t have to remember to keep hitting that dashboard button. This is where ‘DevMode’ comes in handy.

You can click here to get the development widget which will turn this mode on or off.

What is DevMode?

The DevMode widget serves two functions. First, it shows the current status of Dashbooard Development Mode. Second, if you click on the widget it will turn devmode on or off.

Alternativly you can read the rest of this article to learn how to enable and disable dev mode yourself…

Rooting the root

Monday, March 27th, 2006

Ever had one of those times when you’ve fired up an old Linux box, gone to do something that needed root and forgotten your password? Yeah… Me neither. But! I’ve put together this little tutorial to help you reset the root password should you ever forget it.

You will need a live distribution for this (a live distro is a Linux distro that boots and runs off of a cd). I used Knoppix for this article but you can take a look at distro watch to see other Live distributions.

Why I choose not to live in a Windows World…

Amongst all of my friendship circles (real life, online, workplace) there are disagreements about operating systems. There is always someone who would prefer a PC (and of course using a PC means using Windows 99.9% of the time) over a Macintosh and visa versa.

These days people don’t seem to try and experience other operating systems as much. There are more and more ‘IT Professionals’ who have never using anything but a PC. This article is why I choose to avoid as much as possible, A Windows World…

Simplicity is bliss

Welcome to my blog. Through here I hope to publish different works that I have completed. Ideas in my head are everything from an RSS Feed for BOM (since they have said they couldn’t justify it - and I believe it is something I would use) to a .htaccess file creator I can put onto the Codingo shell for users.

Chances are I will also write about various projects I’m working on and different deals or products that I put up on Codingo.

If you disagree with what I write - I really couldn’t care less.
If you write stupid comments - Hey I really couldn’t care less.
If you steal my content - You’re a fuckwit…. and I really couldn’t care less (so long as you don’t go passing my code off as your own).

That is all.
